Top 6 Sources of Carbohydrates


A Carbohydrate is an organic particle comprising of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen molecules. It is a primary source of energy. Which provides your body fuel.

There are two types of carbohydrates:

  1. Simple carbohydrates

In case of simple carbohydrates, your body breaks it down fast and this energy is for a shorter period of time.

  1. Complex carbohydrates

Complex carbohydrates digest slowly in your body and provide you energy for a longer period of time.

Different types of carbohydrates

  • Oatmeal

Oatmeal is a complex form of carbohydrate which does not let your blood sugar level spike. It is the best breakfast for you and provides you the energy the whole day.

  • Cereals

It is also a good source of carbohydrates. Make sure that you are buying whole grain cereal which is high in protein and have fibers. Do not buy cornflakes or stuff like that. Always check the ingredients before buying anything. Do not buy the cereal which is high in sugar and sodium

  • Whole grain bread

Do not use white bread because all the nutrients, fiber, vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, proteins all are absent in white bread. During the processing of making white bread, the company takes them out and you get only a simple form of carbohydrates which spikes your blood. It makes your body promote fat storage. Use only whole grain whole wheat bread.

  • Sweet potato

Normal potato is a simple form of carbohydrate and digests very fast and spikes your blood sugar which promotes fat storage. If you are eating it in a limit then there is nothing to worry about. Sweet potato is a complex (slow digesting) carbohydrate. You need to eat slow digesting carbohydrates. Before and after exercise you can have fast carbohydrate. If you do not do exercise or workout then, do not eat any kind of simple carbohydrate. Eat complex carbohydrate which stables your blood sugar. And you won’t have health problems later on.

  • Whole wheat pasta

Do not use white pasta you can only use whole grain whole wheat pasta. White pasta is again fast digesting carbohydrate like white bread and white potato and has no fibers.

  • Brown rice

It has all the nutrients which your body needs nothing has taken out. White rice doesn’t contain any nutrient. White means brans and germs which has omega3, protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals, B vitamin all important nutrients have stripped out and you get the carbohydrate which spikes your blood sugar level and causes insulin resistance which results in diabetes II problem.

We have some other carbohydrates like fruits and vegetables. Eat raw fruits and vegetables as much as you can but, you have to eat fruits in a limit.

All these carbohydrates have a lot of fiber. More fiber you have more good it would be for your body. You need 25-35g of fiber every day for your digestive system and for your absorption. Fiber won’t spike your blood. It stables your blood sugar level as well. So, fiber should be present in your diet and complex carbohydrates have plenty of fibers.

People who have diabetes 2 problem which takes place due to insulin resistance, they are suffering from diabetes since they are eating a simple form of carbs as it spikes your blood sugar level. So, to balance it you have to start eating food having complex carbohydrates and have more fibers. You have to work out as well to burn the sugar generate in your body.

Eat complex carbohydrates and avoid a simple form of carbohydrates. You can eat a simple form of carbs once a week. If you want to live a healthy life you have to take complex carbs either you are doing exercise, muscle building, fat loss or not. Doing any kind of activity or not. This should be your main motive.
